About
Hello! I'm Carl Fonticella and I'm an alumni of Ohio University in Athens, OH where I earned two degrees in photojournalism and Spanish, as well as a certificate in Latin American Studies. I was born in the border town of Laredo, Texas but until college lived my entire life in Fairview, a small town in Northwest Pennsylvania.
Currently, I am an educator at a school district in NE Ohio, as well as a coach and photo/social media contributor for Fairview Athletics.
I began my photography journey as a sophomore in high school and took photo classes all the way through my senior year. I was blessed to have a photo teacher who constantly pushed me and supported me in my photo work and thank her every day for that.
While in college I worked as a photo editor for a year and a half for The Post, Ohio University's student-run newspaper. I also worked as a stringer photographer for The Post for two and a half years, as well as Speakeasy Magazine, an online student-run publication in Athens..
I have also held internships at Beam Imagination, a creative studio in Atlanta, The Reading Eagle, a 50,000 circulation daily paper in eastern Pennsylvania, the NGO Vision for the Poor at Hospital la Carlota in Montemorelos, Mexico for five weeks, and then for another five weeks at Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología in Querétaro, Mexico in summer 2016.
In 2014 I was lucky enough to be selected to represent my school as a photography intern with US Soccer down in Brazil at the World Cup. Along with six other OU students, we worked alongside members of both the US Soccer media team and members of the world media in both the United States and in São Paulo, Brazil. I also covered the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama on December 19, 2015, the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game in Detroit, Michigan on December 2, 2016, the 2017 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament and the 2018 MAC Women's Basketball Tournament in Cleveland.
When not doing anything photography related, I can normally be found obsessing over dogs, listening to music and going on new adventures where I live.
Below is my contact information. I am always up for a new assignment!
